Professor Cicardi, a thought leader and pioneer in the HAE space, passed away on Aug. 10, 2019. He was a great man, mentor, clinician, physician, and beloved friend. Our thoughts are always with his family and the thousands of families he has so meaningfully helped through his kindness, caring, and brilliance. We give thanks for Marco’s insights and hard work – not only in helping to understand the origins of HAE and develop treatments and preventions of the disease but in his compassion in the personal care of hundreds of patients in Italy. He will be missed but remains in our hearts forever.
Professor Cicardi was a Professor of Internal Medicine at Milan University, Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, and chairman of the Department of Medicine at L. Sacco Hospital in Milan. He trained as fellow in Milan with Prof. A. Agostoni, in Cincinnati with Dr. Virginia Donaldson in 1979, and in Boston at Harvard University with Drs. Fred Rosen and Alvin Davis. He had specific interest in Hereditary Angioedema with more than in 150 scientific papers on genetic, pathophysiology, and clinic of angioedema.
